Mangiarelli Rehabilitation Offers Telehealth to Provide Care During COVID-19

Given the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, many people are unable to attend regularly scheduled medical appointments, including physical therapy. Due to the pandemic, limited access to local gyms and fitness facilities may prevent individuals from regular exercise and lead to physical decline and other health issues. Those that experience the onset of new musculoskeletal pain may overwhelm local emergency rooms and doctors’ offices for conditions that could be effectively triaged by a physical therapy clinic with a direct access license. Mangiarelli Rehabilitation has implemented a plan to combat the Coronavirus crisis through telehealth—virtual physical therapy sessions.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, physical therapy sessions were not covered by most medical insurances including Medicare. However, in an emergency press release on March 17, 2020, the expansion of telehealth coverage was announced to improve access. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) responded by announcing that Medicare will cover e-visits with a physical therapist for its beneficiaries throughout the COVID-19 outbreak. Private insurance companies are independently choosing to cover versions of telehealth or e-visits, although coverage is specific to each carrier.

Access to telehealth and e-visits allows those who do not wish to leave their house the opportunity to speak to their physical therapist. Using a video or telephone call, a Mangiarelli Rehabilitation physical therapist can continue a current treatment plan with a patient, treat new pain or symptoms, and assist in developing an exercise program to prevent decline. This care ensures patients receive needed medical care and helps reduce the overall health burden on hospitals and doctor’s offices.

Virtual physical therapy allows people of all ages to safely keep moving and address pain or injury from the comfort of their own homes. Mangiarelli Rehabilitation is intent on providing the highest quality of care to all patients. We remain open to serve patients in our clinic and offer virtual physical therapy sessions to those who wish to remain in their homes.

Telehealth @ Mangiarelli Rehabilitation

Telehealth allows patients to receive high quality and convenient physical therapy care to continue their treatment program and address new musculoskeletal pain.

How does Telehealth work?

  1. Telehealth involves a patient receiving care using technology. You can use a phone, computer, or tablet to engage in a video conference call with your physical therapist.

  2. The therapist will send a link at your appointment time to your email or via text to your cellphone and will provide any instructions concerning the videoconferencing software.

  3. At the time of your appointment, click on the link to access the video conferencing and begin your virtual physical therapy session with your therapist.

  4. During the video conference, your physical therapist will provide one-on-one care to you. The therapist will progress your treatment plan with you over video conference, assess any new pain or injury, and will offer any modifications or updates to your treatment while you are at home.

  5. Using telehealth, you can continue your treatment without interruption to continue your progress toward optimal recovery and health.

At Mangiarelli Rehabilitation, we are here for you during this unprecedented time and are committed to provide you exceptional and safe care, both in-person and virtually.
