Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique (ART) is a soft-tissue mobilization method that treats the following conditions: back pain, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, shoulder pain, sciatica, tennis elbow, and knee problems. Such conditions are commonly associated with overused nerves, muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

ART works by breaking up adhesions, which are dense collections of scar tissue that form when muscles and connective tissue are injured. Adhesions limit flexibility, causing pain and stiffness in the muscle and joint.

Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular therapy consists of the evaluation and treatment of conditions related to the neurological system (brain, spinal cord, or nervous system). Treatment includes manual therapy; balance and gait training; strengthening exercises to relieve pain and improve function, safety, and walking; and adaptions for daily activities that are limited by the neurological disorder.

We treat patients with a variety of movement impairments due to neurological conditions and diagnoses, including stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Muscular Dystrophy.

Dry Needling

Dry needling, or trigger point dry needling, treats acute and chronic pain as part of an overall physical therapy treatment plan. It can improve a patient’s ability to move with decreased pain and enhance healing after injury. It is used to increase range of motion that is limited due to muscle tightness or scar tissue. Our trained physical therapists push thin solid needles through the skin into trigger points to stimulate the tissue.

Dry needling can treat disk and joint problems, tendinitis, jaw and mouth problems, migraine and headaches, whiplash, repetitive motion disorders, spinal problems, and pelvic pain.

Manual Therapy

We specialize in manual therapy, combining traditional physical therapy modalities with modern techniques to treat our clients.

Manual therapy is a hands-on treatment to regain movement, activate muscles, and reduce inflammation. Our physical therapists perform joint mobilizations, muscle stretching, and movement aimed to improve muscle activations. The therapist also engages in soft tissue techniques to improve the function and mobility of nerves, muscles, and tissues. Manual therapy treatment is performed in conjunction with a customized exercise program to achieve recovery.

Joint Replacement Rehabilitation

Physical therapy plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation of patients who receive a total joint replacement of the knee, hip, or shoulder. It benefits those suffering from joint pain due to arthritis as well.

A total joint replacement involves removing the entirety of the damaged joint, replacing it with artificial parts to maintain joint function.

Post-operative therapy is essential to ensure pain-free function of the joint and improve quality of life. Physical therapy will help restore range of motion, mobility, flexibility, strength, endurance, and the ability to perform prior activities.

Orthopedic Therapy

Orthopedic therapy focuses on improving the function of your musculoskeletal system: muscles, bones, joints, tendons, and ligaments.

Orthopedic physical therapy aims to build a patient’s strength, flexibility, and range of motion and heal injury properly.

Conditions treated include sports injury; muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries; post-surgical rehabilitation; back pain and neck pain; joint pain; arthritis; lymphedema; spinal stenosis; osteoporosis; and TMJ therapy.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) is an exercise-based program designed to reduce vertigo, vestibular disorders, and dizziness. It also addresses gaze instability, imbalance issues, and fall risk. VRT involves habituation exercises, balance training exercises, and gaze stabilization exercises.

Habituation exercises reduce dizziness by repeated exposure to the specific movements and visual stimuli that provoke dizziness. Balance training teaches patients coordinated movement to help them return to daily activities and improve their ability to stand, turn, and walk. Gaze stabilization exercises improve eye movement control and addresses vision issues.

Complete Decongestive Therapy

Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) is a lymphedema treatment performed by Mangiarelli Rehabilitation’s certified lymphedema specialist, Sue. CDT is composed of four elements: manual lymphatic drainage, compression therapy, skincare, and decongestive exercises.

Manual lymphatic drainage is a hands-on technique to remove excess fluid from the affected area. Compression bandaging prevents fluid from returning to the affected area. A customized exercise program improves lymph circulation and maximizes functional ability. The therapist also provides education about the condition, ways to reduce risk, and self-management techniques.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release (MFR) is a hands-on technique that involves gentle sustained pressure into the myo-fascial connective tissues to decrease pain and restore motion. MFR helps to restore fascial elasticity, oxygen, blood flow, and lymphatic circulation to decrease or abolish a patient’s pain.

Myofascial release can help reduce back pain, headaches, migraines, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, cervical and lumbar injuries, chronic pain, neck pain, and fibromyalgia.
